According to ancient Greek philosophers, everything in the universe, including us, consists of the four elements, earth, air, fire and water. They associated the elements to the gods and goddesses, linking air with Zeus, earth with Hera, fire with Hades and water with Persephone. The Greeks believed the elements strongly influenced our personalities.

Water Ancient Greek Philosophers believed that water was the origin of all life. It is the first element - virtually nothing can exist without water.

Water is a feminine element and is recognized for its healing, purifying and soothing properties. A newborn is comprised of 78% water, and an adult is 55% water. About 70 percent of the planet is covered in ocean. Water is refreshing, mystifying and ever-changing. What is more soothing than a walk along the ocean shore or a cool shower after a trying day?

If your element is water you are very in touch with your feelings and emotions, can be hurt easily, but sometimes can be unreasonable and needy. Earth is the never-ending cycle of life, and we depend on her steadfastness, but too often take her for granted. Sometimes the most simple of acts, like taking a barefoot walk in the grass, can reconnect us to nature.

Air is considered a "pure" element, no life on earth can survive without it - from the tiniest baby to the largest tree.

Fresh air is energizing and revitalizes us, but is quite mysterious because we cannot see it. Air is ever changing and different in each of the seasons. It can be bitter and cold in the winter, gentle and soothing in the spring, brisk and energetic in the fall, heavy and hot in the summer. Being outside in the fresh air is very nurturing.
